1/29/16: Nelson, NY- The Nelson Odeon. (My birthday- John M) After a day and a half of braving NYC traffic we left the city. We had a blast in NYC but I have to say that we all felt a weight come off of our shoulders as we watched the city grow small in our rear view mirror as we drove across the George Washington Bridge and made our way into upstate New York. Within minutes we breathed a collective sigh of relief at being surrounded by trees. Our show was in the small town of Nelson, at a really awesome venue called the Odeon, which has hosted lots of awesome bands such as The Milk Carton Kids, Yarn, and the Stray Birds. The owners, Linda and Jeff, are incredibly kind, generous people, and Linda had cooked us a delicious homemade vegan Greek soup. It was so good that even Travis, who isn’t usually thrilled about a meatless meal, went back for seconds! Our show was great and we were so excited to be so far from home and play to a packed house! After the show we walked across the street to stay the night with Jeff and Linda, in their beautiful home from the 1800’s, fit with a coal furnace in the kitchen! We all felt recharged after such an incredible show and while we loved New York City, there is something about a small town that just can’t be beat!
